Sailing School

Starting the coming spring, Garant Charter is for the first time organize a sailing school.

Ivo Orlić

Your instructor will be dr. Ivo Orlić, skipper with over 100.000 miles under his belt. Ivo circumnavigated the world on his own yacht FIU in the period between 2003-06. FIU is a well-known performance cruiser, Grand Soleil 46.3. With her blue and sleek hull she is a real eye catcher in every harbour and very fast on a racing track. She is now a member of our fleet so you can charter her during the high season months.

This sailing school is primarily designed as an advanced, hands-on training. However, novices are welcome as well, as Ivo believes that learning by example is the fastest way to acquire new skills.

Trainings will cover advanced skills like for e.g.: reefing, leaving and mooring under sail, berthing and motoring astern, coming and leaving an alongside berth, advanced rope-work, tactics and sailing in heavy weather. Navigation will cover topics like: terrestrial and satellite navigation, instrumentation aids, passage planning, navigational strategies, etc. To those who plan extended cruising, Ivo will give first hand advice about ocean crossing, provisioning and domestics of a passage, crew selection, timing and route planning, yacht maintenance.

As the safety has the highest priority, the first few hours of the training will be spend on safety drills like man overboard exercise under various weather conditions, the use of flares and inflatable lifejackets, VHF radio, etc.

For advanced sailors, training will be personalised depending on your prior experience and needs.

Initial training will be run in the safety of the bay of Punat whare our fleet is based. After the initial acquaintance with the yacht and with each other and depending on the weather conditions, we will most likely sail south to the islands of Rab, Pag, Lošinj and with a bit of luck, all the way to Kornati.

Trainings will be organised during the long weekends (Fri to Sun) and on request, during the week-days as well.

Cost: 600 kn/day/person which is including the skipper, training, cleaning, gas and bed linen. Food, fuel and other minor costs are shared between the crew.
